Still need to renew "vCenter Server Heartbeat" license ?

Hi,

Is still need to renew "vCenter Server Heartbeat" license ?

  • It's for vCenter server HA (not ESXi / VM host) ?
  • No need anymore since vsphere 5.x and 6.x ?
  • Any replacement ?

Please advice.

Thanks

vCenter Server Heartbeat is n end of life since 2014, so I doubt that you will can renew that license. Anyway, with vCenter 6.5 you can use the new native vCenter HA feature for free, read more about here: https://www.vladan.fr/vmware-vsphere-6-5-native-vcenter-high-availability/

Hi,

As checked with below KB, I found "vCenter Server Heartbeat" not support vCenter 6.0 and 6.5.

Supported vCenter Server High Availability Options (1024051) | VMware KB

Since I am palnning to upgrade vCenter 5.1 to 6.x

This mean I don't need to renew its license ? Even renewal, it still useless, right ?

Thanks

Yes, you don't need renew, and you can't renew since this is End of Life. And even if you renew, the vCenter Server Heartbeat will not support vCenter version 6.

Like I said in my previous reply, just use the new native High Availability feature of the vCenter 6.5.
