I copied my VM from old laptop to new.
Was running 12.x on old laptop. Downloaded 12.5 and installed (running linux mint 18) both old and new OS
When I try to start guest -> Unable to change virtual machine power state: The file specified is not a virtual disk.
I do notice a new folder .lck created when I try to start the guest.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Delete the empty or unreadable "Windows 10 x64.vmdk" and replace it with the one I attached.
The vmdk-descriptor-file is empty - so you cant load the VMDK.
Attach the oldest vmware*.log file to your next reply

Thank you very much.
Hi Alex
there is more than one reason why a vmdk may not qualify as a virtual disk.
Please attach
D:\Kopie_VM E-Technik KST_TM\Windows XP SECURE-000001-cl2.vmdk
and the last vmware.log from a failed start to your next reply
D:\Kopie_VM E-Technik KST_TM\Windows XP SECURE-000001-cl2-000001.vmdk
I just tried this again. And the file you sent me no longer works same error. How did you make that file.
I tried using vmware-vdiskmanager -R path/to/vmfk/file
but it returns w/o any feedback.
I also tried downloading VDDK and running vmware-vdiskmanager -R /path to vmdk
but also returns w/o feedback.
Hello continuum,
thank in advance for your help! Please find attached the requested files.
By the way, just FYI: the last thing before this problem did occur has been that a snapshot has been created. After this the machine could be startet without any trouble for one time. Now it won't start anymore.
Best regards,
Alexander
Hi Alex
sorry for late reply.
I am afraid that I have to tell you that this case is not as trivial as the last one in this thread.
Looks like you are in germany too.
I would suggest to continue via skype - see my signatue.
If you are not interested - next I need a filelisting of all the vmdk-parts including size in bytes ...
Once that is done we probably need to check the vmdk-headers for each vmdk-part.

I am scopa the OP -> could you please provide some insight? New machine build, applied your new vmdk but issue still remains.

Now it gets confusing ...
Lets close this thread and discuss your new issue in a new post.
Provide the same input:
list of vmdk-files including full names and filesize
vmdk-descriptor files attached
vmware.logs
