What are they used for?

Why is only one a folder?

Why don't we have this in NFS?

Why are they different sizes?

What happens if I delete these?

They are VMFS file system files.

See this KB for more details: About VMFS system files overhead (1001618) | VMware KB

NFS itself is only used to presented already existing storage/file systems to remote systems.
