SRM Reprotect to site with multiple VR appliances in multiple security zones

When protecting a VM with VR, you have the option to either allow VR to auto-select a replication appliance in the recovery site to receive the incoming replication data stream or to manually select from the list of registered VR appliances at the recovery site.

After a SRM failover, during the re-protect workflow is there a way to select which VR appliance at the new Recovery site that will be used to replicate the VMs back, per VM within the recovery policy? For example, if within each site you have 2 security zones and with corresponding VR appliances that access to only those hosts within protection group/recovery plan, is there a way to ensure that the VMs being re-protected from security zone 1 use the appliance from security zone 1 in the recovery site? (Security zones in both sites are on the same network).

From testing it would appear as though the re-protect attempts to load balance the replication workloads across the available VR appliances which is a problem when a VM from security zone one is added to the VR appliance in security zone 2 in the recovery site, by SRM re-protect.

Hi,

You are correct - in current SRM/VR releases it is not possible to choose the VR server in the reprotect dialog and VRMS chooses the one with least number of replications on it.

You can either:

A. Configure manually the replication in the reverse direction by using VR UI and explicitly choose the VR server. SRM on re-protect will discover the already configured replication in the reverse direction and use it in the protection group.

or

B. Re-configure manually the replication after the initial sync has been started after the reprotect. You don't need to wait for the sync to complete in order to switch to a different VR server.

Both options use the VR UI and the configure / re-configure is for one VM at a time. I'm not sure if the vRO plugin for VR exposes functionality for moving replications from one VR server to another.
