can you use layer 2 network between protected and recovery site using site recovery manager and vsphere replication

Good day Everyone,

I would like some advise on the network layer to use for site recovery manager with vsphere replication. Will it be possible to use a layer 2 point to point networking with site recovery manager and vsphere replication also if we decide to change from vsphere replication to array based replication will this still work.

From my understanding i would say that we need to use layer 3 networking between the 2 sites correct me if im wrong

Regards

A stretched Layer 2 network between protected and recovery site is possible and much more simple to implement no matter the way your replicate your VMs. With a stretched Layer 2 you will don't need to change IPs of your VMs at recovery site, what will eliminate additional steps on the recovery plan and speed up the recovery process.

‌Absolutely possible - and should not be a problem for arraybased replication either - can be used with RecoverPoint for example.

Thanks guys for the feedback the stretched layer 2 network does make a lot of sense.
