P2V Conversion Window Server 2k

Hello All,

I need some help figuring out the error message related to a P2V failure.

I'm attempting to convert a physical windows 2k 32bit server to a VM and I got all the way to 95% and then received an error.

I'm using the VMware vCenter Converter standalone 4.0.1  on a remote PC, the destination host is running ESX4.0.

Could this be a firewall issue on the source server? Or am I using the wrong conversion tool?

Hi,

did you try to install the converter on the local VM? Thats what i do when i p2v a machine. After migration, i remove the converter from the "VM".

Also i would recommend to use the latest converter version 6

Do NOT install Converter 6.0. It doesn't work with w2k, keep with 4.x

There is an error installing the agent. Try installing it manually and retry the conversion. The installer is called VMware-Converter-Agent.exe and can be found with the other executables, in "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone"

JimKnopf99‌ plamen Thanks for confirming guys! I will keep version 4.0.1.

I let the converter wizard install the agent and it did appear to install successfully, I could see it on the remote server's add/remove programs list.

I will uninstall it and try to deploy the VMware-Converter-Agent.exe as recommended.

I'll let you guys know how round two goes, unfortunately I am having to do this across MPLS so it took roughly 7 hours last time. :smileyplain:
