IBM X3650 M5 + Intel X540-T2 = No-Go

Hi All

I just finished upgrading our servers from IBM X3530 M4 to IBM (Lenovo) X3650 M5s.

Our X3530s ran 2 x PCI-e cards - one SAS HBA (IBM PN 46M0907) for connecting to our SAN and a Intel X540-T2 Converged 10 gbE adapter (2 x RJ45 10G) to plug into our switch.

This setup was working perfectly, until we upgraded.

Now I have the IBM x3650 M5 with the SAS HBA in PCI-e slot 4 and the 10g network card in PCI-e slot 5. It appears the network card is not at all detected. I am installing ESXi using the ESXi-5.5.0-Update3-3116895-LNV-20151125 (IBM Customized version of ESXi 5.5 U3B) so this should theoretically all be supported.

I am not seeing the card in lspci -vvv. I see no mention of the driver loading in /var/log/vmkernel.log (I searched the whole thing for "ixgbe" and found nothing).

Where do I begin troubleshooting this?

Ok an update. It appears the issue is with this new X3650 M5 server. If you have 2 PCI-e cards, one in slot 4 and one in slot 5 (These are the 2 PCI-e slots right off the motherboard not requiring riser) it appears that whichever card is in slot 5 is not detected. I swapped the SAS HBA + 10gigE nics around, and whichever one was in slot 5 would not work.

Any ideas? I have already updated firmwares to latest.
