Most VDI image optimization guides suggest disabling the "Security Center" service.
In Windows 7, you can disable such notifications with these registry value:
Location | Setting Name | Default Value | Possible Value |
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\Security Center | AntiVirusDisableNotify (DWORD) | 0 | 0 or 1 |
FirewallDisableNotify (DWORD) | 0 | 0 or 1 | |
UpdatesDisableNotify (DWORD) | 0 | 0 or 1 |
In Windows 10, those registry values don't work, and you end up with a big error scaring the user:
A commenter on this post highlighted a way to remove this error without enabling the service in Windows 10 setting 8 days ago, and it was very useful to me:
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/disable-security-center-notifications-windows-10
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Notifications\Settings\Windows.SystemToast.SecurityAndMaintenance
Value Name: Enabled
Value type: REG_Dword
Value: 0 (HEX)
I hope its useful to others as well.
Thanks for posting this. We have been looking for this since 2015 when Windows 10 was introduced.
I saw you posted this in February. Has this continued working successfully for you, suppressing the Security and Maintenance notifications?
Have you tried it with Windows 10 1703 yet?
Here is how to enable / disable Notifications in Windows 10
1- Click on the start menu.
2- Select settings and open the settings window.
3- Once the window opens, select System.
4- Once you select System, in the left pane, find Notifications and Actions.
5- Under the Notifications heading, toggle the option that says -App Notifications.
