VMware Workstation Player 12 - Error while powering on: The operation was cancelled by the user

VMware Workstation 12 Player was running fine

I had Ubuntu-64b VM installed on a Win 10s Dell-XPS

I installed eclispe yesterday.

Battery went dead and on power up I can't restart VM.

Now I keep getting this error message - Error while powering on: The operation was cancelled by the user

Used to get it before but after a couple of attempts it would power up.

Any ideas how to resolve?

Is there an error log I can upload?

Welcome to Workstation community.

Does it only happen when restart VM? How about Power on/Power off?

Could you upload the ui log(under %temp%\vmware-<user>\) and the vmware.log(In the VM folder)? Thanks in advance.

If i have to do a hardware reset on the PC or if battery dies and I'm powering up the VM it keeps giving this error. I'm not sure where to locate the ui.log. See vmware.log below.

Please do not copy and paste your log file instead use the attach button, reason for not using copy & paste is that the thread (and log itself) becomes very difficult to read.

This button/link for attaching a file is "hidden" in the bottom right of your reply window.

Thanks!

Moved log to attachment, see below:

Hello Conor,

The answer from HuanguoZhong was the best answer so far and your reply does not say if you tried it.

Perhaps you did not completely understood or know what to do.

In your log file, the virtual machine is trying to resume from a previous boot.

Right click the VM in the virtual machine library and select "Power Off".

This would cause your vm to discard the broken resume file.

Hopefully after that you can boot again.

edit: the location of the UI log that was previously asked for can be found by looking in the menu Help->About

Also I notice that your VM lives in a folder under OneDrive,

I'm not sure that will work. I've got my doubts about both it working well and possible side effects on the VM too.

Try

VM->Power->"Power On to Firmware"

That worked for me.

In my case, I had forgotten that I was running a partition manager that was connected to the virtual disk that powered the virtual machine I was trying to start. Once I closed that partition software, the VM launched without error.
