ESXi 6.5 - RAID 10 datastore - (10K RPM hard disks) with SSD drive as host cache - benefit?

Hello,

I have a client setting up a new server.  They are using local 10K RPM hard disks in a RAID 10 configuration for the datastore.

I suggested getting an enterprise level 128GB SSD drive to use for host caching and wanted to get some input if that would still be helpful in this environment.

From what I have been reading, it might only be useful for an all SSD datastore.

They have Essentials Plus licenses.

Thank you in advance.

Unless I'm mistaken, "Flash Read Cache" requires Enterprise Plus licensing.

Anyway, with a local RAID, you should definitely get a RAID controller which has a BBU/BBWC/FBWC cache option, to allow for write-back operation, rather than write-through without cache!
