Expired Licenses impact NSX?

Hello!

I had a customer asking what happens in terms of packet forwarding and other functions if the license expires? Is traffic halted or does it just mean that you cant make any changes to the enviroment?  Couldnt find any information regarding this so i thought that someone here might know the answer?

Cheers

Tony

As stated in this KB article, "There is no hard enforcement" for NSX licensing so it'll generate an alert, but will not affect traffic forwarding, making changes to the environment, etc.  Licensing NSX for vSphere 6.x (2078615) | VMware KB

There is indeed no hard enforcement.

On a side note, I personally think it's quite awful if vendors build something like this into their products. You may even program a bug into the license check and bring the customer environment down, even though they have an active license/subscription. Not a good idea. VMware has, to my knowledge, never done such a thing and probably never will.

So your customer is safe Smiley Happy
