The Operation on file "\\.\PhysicalDrive0" failed.

Hi,

I have now gotten this error twice in the past 7 days. See attached "VMWare Error on XP VM.jpg"

Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it please.

I am running VMWare Workstation Pro Ver 12.5. See attached "VMWare Version.jpg".
This is the first time in more than a year that I got any errors with VMWare.

Additional info is required:
1. is disk0 also used to boot the hostOS ?
2. do you start WS via right click "run as admin" ?
3. do you use a rawdisk type "fulDevice" or "partitionedDevice" ?
4. what is your hostOS ?
5. did you set the partitions that are used to bot the guest XP to the state "offline" in the diskmanagement of the host OS ?

I have the same issue, been using n WinXp SP3 physical drive for about 2 year, now al off a sudden this is the error:

"

The operation on file "\\.\PhysicalDrive0" failed.

If the file resides on a remote file system, make sure that the network connection and the server where this disk resides are functioning properly. If the file resides on removable media, reattach the media.

Select Retry to attempt the operation again.

Select Cancel to end this session.

Select Continue to forward the error to the guest operating system."

The setup has not changed:

1) Yes the physical disk0 has boot partition / C / D partitions.

2) Always run as admin

3) Fulldisk

4) WinXP SP3

5) Yip, offline. Sometimes you have to bring it online and then back offline - qwerky tweak but it use to work..

I'm not sure what the issue is.

Also when booting the disk directly as a HOST drive nothing else, it work like a charm. No issues.
