I*n the past we have successfully installed applications such as ArcGIS 10.14, Trimble PFO 5.8 and others on VMWare running W7 on Mac. With Sierra (10.12.1), W10 and VMWare 8.5.2 installed all applications installation fail with an error message such as (this from Trimble PFO)
Error Code 1606: Could not access network location \\vmware-host\shared folders\Documents 2\
The directory exists and has read/write permissions
After multiple experiments we found that Unsharing all folders, installation of application and then resharing allows the software to install.
under Virtual Machine > Sharing > Sharing Settings *disable* (unclick) all Shared Folders...
Install the software and then re-enable sharing ..
