VSAN On-Disk v2-3 upgrade

Hi, does anyone have a time estimate for a VSAN datastore upgrade from version 2 to 3? Take a 5 host cluster, 40TB datastore, 50% full - are we talking minutes or hours?

Also, is there any way to tell how much free space is needed as it evacuates each disk group?

Good morning, I believe you're in the hours for sure.  Especially if you're evacuating data to ensure protection.  As for the space that needs to be free to do an evacuation, that depends on FTT, RAID 5, RAID 6, how many diskgroups on each host, etc...  Thank you, Zach.

Hours. Make sure to precheck before you do the on-disk format upgrade. Use RVC to check for inaccessible objects and realignments as well as having enough space to move data around while the DGs are recreated.

Definitely hours with the given amount of disk utilization.

Hours would be optimistic, you should allow a weekend - we had a similar upgrade, 5 hosts ~30TB, 50% full and the upgrade started on Friday and finished on Sunday from memory. Hybrid setup - so AF might be quicker.

Ok thanks all for this input, we'll make sure to do the preparations and schedule a loong maintenance window for this!
