vSphere HA best practices for clusters

sHi all,

first of all I´m really sorry! I think I`ve posted the question in the wrong place (ESXi section :-))  ... I think this is more appropriate!

for a project I am going to create a cluster of mail servers (let's call it ES ... and I need 2 mail server)

and a cluster of Web servers (let's call it WS and I need 2 web server).

Each cluster will have 2 ESXi host (VMware vSphere FT).

Question is:

would be better to create two clusters as described (one cluster just for the 2 mail servers and one for the 2 web servers) or to create 2 clusters each with both servers?

thanks a lot and sorry again for double posting!

How many physical ESXi servers do you have?

Without knowing a bit more, I'd suggest that your best bet might be to put all of the ESXi hosts into a single cluster, and then create your mail and web servers in that cluster. You can then use anti-affinity rules to make sure the two mail servers don't run on the same host, and likewise for the 2 web servers.

Cheers, Matt.
