OpenGL support is 3.0 instead of advertised 3.3 - does 3.3 exist? How to get it??

With the Workstation 12.5 on Windows 10 on my quadro 5800 host, my windows 10 and 7 guests report OpenGL 3.0 only - making my OpenGL 3.1 programs not work (which is basically all OpenGL 3.x, since 3.1 is usually the minimum for them all)

In the release notes, it says the following:-

  • Advanced graphics
Support has been added for the following standards:
    • DirectX 10
    • OpenGL 3.3

so what do we have to do to get 3.3 working?  Do we need some extra drivers from somewhere?  I've tried re-installing the vmware tools several times, as well as checked all the driver options in windows looking for newer ones.  I notice all the dll driver files for the graphics in vmware guests are version 12.* *except* for the openGL driver dll, which is some other old version - could vmware simply have shipped an old DLL in the windows guest drivers by mistake?

How does a question like this go unanswered?

I need OpenGL 3.3.  I will likely buy 12.5 if it really can support 3.3.

In my case it'll be in Windows guests running on Windows 8.1 host with an ATI Radeon HD 7850 and driver that natively supports OpenGL 4.4.
