VCenter server and Postgres

Bit of a newbie on the VM front, but am planning to install VCenter on a Win 2008 server box...

However there is already a 3rd party app installed on it which already uses PSQL (Postgres) for its backend database

Is this likely to cause a problem..?

Hi,

If you are starting new, I would you to use vCenter server Appliance instead of Windows based vCenter.

vCenter appliance is Linux based preinstalled vCenter system. Its easy to deploy, configure and use.

vSphere 6.0 Documentation Center

Back to your question - I think it will work if both instances of postgresql usages different port number.

if Windows 2008 is virtual machine, take the snapshot before making any changes.

Hi

Thanks for that... I guess a follow-up question is if I used the VA for vCenter, is it a good idea to install this on both ESXi hosts for redundancy?

I have two ESXi6 hosts, each running a single production Windows VM...so I need to install vCenter somewhere (either as a VA on one/both hosts, or in one/both Windows VMs), along with Veeam free backup somewhere !

Does that sound about right ?

TIA
Mike

nope. you need  only one vCenter appliance ( or windows vCenter ). One vCenter can manage many more ESXi host and VMs.

as of now vCenter don't work in clustering mode so two instances of vCenter are of no use.
