VCenter 5.0 VSphere HA Advanced Options

Hi Guys,

Quick question on one of our cluster we had HA Advanced options configured as follow:

das.vmFailovereEnabled to True. also other options with default options.

Seems some one set this up but forgot to remove the settings, now I have removed the settings but on some VMs HA still resting the VMs.

I have set the das.vmFailovereEnabled to False and removed the other options but not sure why VMs are still rebooting? Do these changes needs rebooting of the VMs?

Regards
Umar

It sounds like you are trying to turn off VM HA ?

Rather than remove the setting, configure it to false:

  • das.vmFailoverEnabled (VM Monitoring) – 5.0 and prior
If set to “true”, VM Monitoring is enabled. When it is set to “false”, VM Monitoring is disabled.

Also, please confirm where you are applying this setting?

Yes it should be instant. Where are you applying the setting exactly, are you changing it on all hosts/clusters?

When you say VMs are getting rebooted, are you sure it is in relation to this setting? The VMs should only be getting rebooted if the heartbeat does not get received within x seconds

Hi,

Yes I have changed it on the Cluster level. I assume it is probably the HA is rebooting the VM when it is going to sleep mode?

Quite possible yes.

One thing to try is turn off HA on the cluster, then turn it back on again. This might trigger it into resetting the VM HA option.

I don't support you have the option to turn off VM HA on the cluster via the GUI? (I don't think you could until 5.1 from memory)

Hi,

Oh yes that's a very good idea to turn it off and back on. I have just tried it and yes HA option is available in 5.0 GUI.

Thanks for your help I will monitor this for few days and see how it goes.
