VCenter in Essential Kit

Buongiorno,

Ho una essential kit e, leggo nella documentazione, che la vesrione di vCenter deve essere quella abbinata ad essential kit.

Ho un paio di domande:

1. La differenza di vCenter per essential kit da quella classica è solo una questione di licenza o anche di cidice binario?
2. Si può usare vCenter appliance con essential kit (e quindi risparmiare la licenza Windows)?

Ciao,

il vCenter Essential ha come unico limite, rispetto al vCenter Standard, la possibilià di gestire al massino 3 host ESXi ognuno con un massimo di 2 socket.

Puoi usare a tua scelta sia il vCenter su un server Windows che la versione in appliance fornita da VMware, questa scelta non è limitata dalla licenza.

I found my solution. As mentioned, I have the Essential Kit license, so no vMotion. I installed a fresh vSphere 8.01 on a new host and then moved VMs (from 6.5 to 8.01) using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone. Doing so I avoided the upgrade of 6.5 hosts and just reinstalled on vSphere 8 once moved the VMs to the new host. Even the storage has been changed, from DAS to SAN.
vCenter Converter was very useful. No migration problems for Windows machines. For Linux virtual machines I had to delete the virtual NIC and add a new one on a new environment (it was VMXNET3 even on 6.5).
