VMWare Fusion 6.0.6 and MacOS Sierra?

I have been using VMWare 6.0.6 with OS 10.11 El Captain and running Win 7 x32 with no problems.  I always just suspend Win 7 rather than quitting Win 7.  Resuming Win 7 is always fast.  Well I upgraded the Mac OS to 10.12 Sierra and now VMWare will not restart Win 7, I get a "Resuming" bar.  This has now been trying to "Resume" for an hour.  What is the recommendation from this community?  What do I do next?

I think will reinstall Win7 and see if that solves the problem, which I think is doubtful.  The next step would be to upgrade VMWare Fusion to v8.  I am running a bowling league software program in Win 7.  I may have to reinter all of the games if I can not restart the program.

If it tries to resume then it is using a mechanism in Fusion trying to get the OS back to the last state before you suspended it.

The Windows OS itself is unaware about that. Something in the upgrade must have caused the resume to no longer work.

Instead of a full reinstall I would suggest to do what you would do in the physical world.. pull the plug (on the virtual machine)

You can do that with a Virtual machine as well (virtually pulling a plug) by holding down the option key while going to menu "virtual machine".

The "Shut Down" option then changes into "Power Off"

So try the Power Off option and see if that resolves your "not being able to boot" issue.

Thanks for the reply wila.   I idid not get the "Power Off" option in the "Virtual Machine" menu.  I get a "Force Startup" rather then "Startup".  In the "VMWare Fusion" menu the option is "Quit and close all windows".

Here is a screen shot of the error in VMWare Fusion.

I now am having problems reinstalling Win7 from the DVD.  Not sure what the issue is at this time.  Maybe upgrade Fusion to v8?

Hi,

That particular error is sometimes cured by restarting OS X (well macOS in your case)

Not sure if that will fix it for long. I don't have Fusion 6.x installed down here anymore.

It probably is time to upgrade - there's a great deal right now.

Same issue here. Can't resume a VM. Can't create a VM. Can't start a VM. Just sits there doing nothing... Can't kill it. Reboot required. Doesn't help though...

Same problem here...

I'm using VM Ware Fusion 6.0.6, but with the Mac OS Sierra (10.12) it's not working anymore. The VM's starts but keeps "resuming" forever.

Any suggestions??

My solution was to  upgrade to Fusion 8.  My problem was that the link to the Bowling Software running in Win7 was broken. Fusion 8 and Win 7 worked OK  but the Bowling League software had to be reinstalled.   The bowling program had a backup file that had zero bites, no data and the time machine backup could not be opened because I had upgraded to Fusion 8.  It took 11 hours to create a new bowling league and enter the data.  Bummer.

For the future - time machine is not remotely reliable for backing up virtual machines.  It's best to manually copy over the VM to another drive or use a solution like Carbon Copy Cloner with the VM shut down completely.

I also cannot get Fusion 6.0.6 to work with Sierra.  When I start a VM, I get this: "Internal error".  This same exact VM on El Capitan works fine (tested on a different MacBook).

I even tried creating a new virtual machine, and get same error.  VERY Frustrating.

I had the same problem (infinite resuming bar on Sierra.)  I upgraded to Fusion 8.5 and all is back to normal.

Just curious, has anyone attempted a reinstall of Fusion 6.0.6 ?  I may try that this weekend.

I can't even run the installer. Just get "Image not recognized" when running installer. Same for 6.0.6 and V8...

Guess I'll be switching to VirtualBox Smiley Sad

Oops. My bad. 8.5 installer re-download looks like it may be working. 6.0.6 still doesn't though...

I completely removed 6.0.6 and re-installed.  Same problem.  I then tried V 7.0, same problem.

I downloaded a free 30 day trial of 8.5, and it all works great.

Looks like any version prior to 8 will not work on Sierra.....

Thanks artmerk. Just saved me a couple of hrs... Now I need to work out if I'm prepared to fork out for the upgrade or head down the virtualbox route...

FYI in the following thread they talk about conflicts with having both VB and Fusion installed on macOS Sierra.

"Could not open /dev/vmmon" on macOS 10.12

There's even a statement that VB cannot be installed on macOS Sierra (I have not tried, so can't deny/confirm, it also does not say it doesn't work, just that the installer has issues)

Fusion 6 was built four years ago.    Apple's made a ton of changes to the internal plumbing of OSX since then.  Best to take advantage of the discounted price and get on a current release.

I did not force quit VMWare Fusion 6 and my MacBook Air rebooted and is trying to restart the Applications that were opened.

Now everything is stalled with a black screen and I canot Force Quite VMWare Fusion 6 nor switch to another window/Application.

Booting in safe mode did not help.

I do not know what tot do to fix this problem, any suggestions?
