It seems that any new Windows VM I create on ESXi 6.0 is reporting VMWare tools not installed after I install them.
I did check "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\plugins\vmsvc" directory for .001 files, but only could see .dll.
If i try to reinstall the tools on the guest it's detecting a previous installation and wants to run a repair. Additionally, VMX nics start working after tools are installed, however the host does not detect the installation.
VMware Tools incorrectly reports the message: VMware Tools can be up updated (2001382) | VMware KB
Guest VMs that were created previously don't exhibit this issue.
Any help in solving this problem is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
It sounds very much like the problem is with the host and not the VMs.
Is the issue with Vms on one host of VMs on more than one host?
I would restart the management agents on the affected host(s) to see if this solved it, otherwise report back and we can take another look.
Thanks. There is only one host.
I took the host to 6.0.0 U1, reinstalled VMWare Tools on all affected guests and now all VMs report Tools Installed and Current.
That's great. As part of the upgrade, the agents will be restarted to it's possibly that this fixed it.
Thanks for posting back
