New HTML Client SDK Fling!

We uploaded a new HTML Client SDK Fling today on the vSphere HTML5 Web Client Fling page.

Click on the drop down on the left hand side and select html-client-sdk-6.5.0-<build>.zip. See also the attached PDF for an overview.

This new SDK contains everything you need to build HTML plugins that are compatible with both vSphere Web Client (6.0 and 6.5) and vSphere HTML Client!

If you already have an HTML plugin using a previous SDK please try out this new HTML SDK and let us know if you run into any problem. See the documentation included in the SDK for detailed upgrade steps.

We will update the SDK Fling on a regular basis to improve documentation, samples and fix problems.

Start using it today to get your plugin ready in time for with the release of vSphere HTML Client later this year!

Based on questions we received let me clarify one part of our HTML SDK Fling announcement:

> If you already have an HTML plugin using a previous SDK please try out this new HTML SDK and let us know if you run into any problem. See the documentation included in the SDK for detailed upgrade steps.

This means that existing HTML plugins built with SDK 5.5.x, or 6.0.x, are compatible with the new HTML client, after some small upgrade steps related to webapp context paths. The HTML Bridge introduced over 3 years ago had two goals:  first to allow you to build Web client plugins using HTML/Javascript instead of Flex, and second to make those plugins upward compatible with the future HTML client we were planning.  The reason plugins are compatible is that the HTML SDK is using the same Javascript API as the Flex SDK's HTML bridge.

However if your existing plugin has a mix of Flex and HTML views, only the HTML views remain visible in the HTML client.  The Flex views don't break anything, there are just not visible. Other extensions which don't involve a plugin specific views will work (actions, custom objects, etc.)

Hope that makes sense.  Feel free to ask more questions here if you don't find what you need in the HTML SDK docs!

Hi shalini12,

vSphere HTML Client SDK is a successor of vSphere Web Client SDK that allows writing 3rd party plug-ins which can run on both vSphere HTML Client and vSphere Web Client (Flex). Fling is just a way to provide the SDK before the actual vSphere releases so that we get your feedback.

For more info about specific new features and compatibility please check the documentation in GettingStartedwithHTMLClientSDKFling.pdf document of the Fling zip. For general info about vSphere Web Client SDK features please see the resources in https://developercenter.vmware.com/web/sdk/60/web-client

Cheers,

Vladimir
