vcenter 5.1 + sql 2008 , running on Win 2008 --> Windows 2012 -vcenter 6X

My (vcenter 5.1 + sql 2008 , running on Win 2008) , is in Europe, we need to move this to Windows 2012 env in Apac

The plan in this is to retain the vcenter db info

I took a 5.1 sql 2008 backup

I have 2 servers 2012 ready , both has only win 2012, DB node has SQL 2008.

Looks like the plan will be

1. Restore the DB backup on win 2012 sql db

2. Install vcenter 5.1

3. Upgrade vcenter 5.1 to 6.0

Does anyone think of any challenge in this ?

Plan looks fine .

My recommendation would be as below :-

Note :- Please check if the SQL version used is supported for both VC 5.5 and 6.0 .

1. Restore the DB backup on win 2012 SQL DB .  ( DB compatibility should be set to at least to SQL Server 2008 (100) ) .

2. Install VC 5.5 . ( Make sure to use FQDN of Machine ) .

3. Upgrade VC 5.5 to 6.0 .
