why does vSphere 6 report greater memory usage than vSphere 5????

We recently went from vSphere 5 to vSphere 6.0 U2.

Nice new HP DL360 G9 servers too with 96 GB RAM apiece.

Old servers had 32, 32, and 96 GB RAM, respectively.

After getting all the VMs into the new vSphere 6.0 hosts, the reported memory usage is noticeably higher than in vSphere 5.0.

All the VMs ran comfortably within the old vSphere host servers' available memory, less than the current 96/96/96.

Now in the new vSphere 6.0 hosts all the VMs are using more memory than before, the Virtual Machines window shows the VMs maxing out their host memory.

Why is this happening, should/can something be done about it??

I need to know so I can know if I must later put in more RAM to accommodate more VMs, or to take any necessary corrective action.

Maybe 6.0 U2 has memory issues??

Thank you, Tom

hi,

i have the same problem, but without having an registered virtual machine (unregistered all today because of crashes)

The Hostserver has 4 Gigabyte Memory. In ESXI 5.5 i could use more than 2 Gigabyte. Now i just can use 900MB.
