The VMware Tools power-on script did not run successfully in this virtual machine. Fusion 8.1.1, Ubuntu Studio 15.04

I am running Ubuntu Studio 15.04 "vivid" under Fusion 8.1.1.  Both Fusion and the Ubuntu instance have gone through numerous upgrades.

At some point it was recommended to switch from vmware-tools to open-vm-tools, which I did.  I have uninstalled vmware-tools.

I continue to get the pop-up on boot that says "The VMware Tools power-on script did not run successfully in this virtual machine".

I do not know how to turn this off.  There are no relevant entries in my .vmx file for scripts, so I don't know what to do.

Hi palomnik,

Welcome to Fusion community.

Please try steps below:

1. Select the VM on Library

2. Right-click no the VM while pressing down key 'Control'

3. Select 'Open Configure file in Editor' from the menu

4. Search keyword 'toolscripts' in opened VMX file

5. Delete the 'toolscripts.xxxx = xxx' from the search results or set its value to 'FALSE'

6. Save the VMX file and then re-add the VMX file to Library

7. Power on the VM

If it does not work, please inform us for getting more suggestion, thanks.

Harry
