database validation failed vc 5.8

I am trying the typical installation on vcm 5.8 but keep getting the database validation failed error

any idea?

I tried server\instance or server but both failed.

where is the log anyway?

To collect the installation logs:

1. Log into the Collector machine as the user that installed vRealize Configuration Manager. 
2. Click Start > Run, enter %TEMP%, and click OK. You should be in the /temp directory. 
3. Collect all files in the _csi_installation directory in a zip file.

Did you try the FQDN for the server name?
