vmkernel.log - unknown fatal error hpvsa

I am a ESXI rookie and run a HP Microserver Gen8 with ESXI5.1U3. Attached are 4 x 3TB WD Red and a Crucial 240GB SSD as Datastore on the ODD port.

I have some strange errors in the vmkernel.log and I am not able to find some additional information about it:

2016-05-23T18:51:51.166Z cpu0:3862568)HpDebugPrint: hpvsa: Fatal Error Interrupt Occured Port 4.  Interrupt status: 40000001.

The log entry occur irregular 3 to 15 times an hour. I have no clue, if this is something critical or ignorable.

I also have a lot (200-1000 an hour) of other log entries, which I found out, that I can ignore these messages. (hope this is correct)

These messages affect all four "naa..." drives.

I plan to use the storage with "real" data in the future and a fatal error sounds not very promising for this purpose.

So local Controllers not supporting all Commands.

if i'am right from you're output:  (looks not critically to me).

Status Code : Check Condition     (Device 0x2)

Sense Code: Illegal Request   (0x5)

Additional Sense Code:  Invalid Command Operation Code (0x20)

Command Code: Log Sense  (0x4D)

The Fatal Error Interrupt looks strange. you used original Vmware Iso or HP ones?  Vmware not able to help much on HP images. good anyway to open up a Case.

could you check out first on VMware Compatibility Guide - System Search

to search Firmware Requirement for the RaidController. Would check out also 5.5/6.0 Possibilities.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am using the custom HP iso with the last SPP.

The compatibility list shows "green" for the server for all ESXI versions.

I will also try to get answers from HP.
