VMs are really slow (Solved)

I solved this by myself : I've installed then disabled Hyper-V and it fixed Workstation

Hello there,

First of all, I past hours on google to find a solution without any success.

When I'm installing a program e.g. (even a lite one), it can take up to 30 min to finish.

VMs are not laggy (e.g. mouse runs smoothly) but are slow to execute actions, execute programs.

To shut down a simple fresh installation of a windows vm, it takes 10 min to do it.

I'm using lastest version of VMWare Workstation trial.

My pc settings :

. Processor : Intel® Core™ i5 4570s ( quad core - 3.7 GHz)

. RAM : DDR3 16 Go PC12800 (1600 MHz) Corsaire Vengeance

. OS : Windows 10 Pro (64bits)

. Motherboard : ASUS Z87-Pro C2

. Power supply : Corsair HX850i 80+ Platinum

. Storage : Samsung SSD 850 Pro 128GB (OS) + 2xWD Black 3 To SATA 6Gb/s (where are stocked the vms)

. Internet : CAT5e Ethernet cable at VDSL2 Vectoring 100 Mb

Here is what I already tried :

-Virtual drives are stored on a single file

-virtual drives defragmented

-Runing a vm alone

-VMware Workstation Procces priority on high value

-more that 20% space disk free on guest and host

-Even if the cpu and ram usage are ok, I tried to Add more CPU and add more or less RAM on vm

-Turned off the AV on the host (and no av on the vm)

-Power performance turned ON on host and VM

-VMware tools installed and up to date

-Screen saver off

-VMware Workstation installed on a SSD and VM stocked on a 3TB Western Digital Black drive

-My HDD are new, but I ran a SMART test with the official WD tool and the test is passed, the HDD is not fragmented.

-Tried both x86 et x64 Windows VM (x64 host)

-deleted snapshots

-Even if I've no performance issue on my host, I closed all applications runing

-I don't use linked vm

-Had the same issue on my previous computer (I only kept from my previous pc my ssd with the host OS installed on it)

-Run Workstation as admin

-Use preallocated disks

I can copy filed up to 140 MBps on my hard disk, so it runs fine, but when using VMware workstation, write speed is stuck to 7MBps, while running 1 or 10 vms

One thing to note : my CPU doesn't have hyperthreading. But I had one before with this option got the same issue.

I'm stuck with this problem, it would be nice if you could help me out. Smiley Happy

Thank you for the reply, but unfortunatly it didn't solve my issue.

I've already tried everything of this KB except the line

mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE"

but it doesn't solve my issue neither.

Here are some more informations :

-Run Workstation as admin

-My HDD are new, but I ran a SMART test with the official WD tool and the test is passed, the HDD is not fragmented.

-To shut down a simple fresh installation of a windows vm, it takes 10 min to do it.

-I can copy filed up to 140 MBps on my hard disk, so it runs fine, but when using VMware workstation, write speed is stuck to 7MBps, while running 1 or 10 vms

-Takes about 2 min to suspend a vm

EDIT : I solved this by myself : I've installed then disabled Hyper-V and it fixed Workstation

Can you give it a try if adding below line in your vmx solve your issue?
