Alerting through vROMs on vmware tools not running

I am trying to find a way to monitor vmware tools status. We have had VMs go offline and we don't have active monitoring. I thought a status of vmware tools would help. Does anyone have a working method for alerting/notifications for when VMware tools is not running through vrealize?

Create a symptom Definition as bellow and then add it to a new alter definition then create a notification

Although the below might be better or you could add both and only trigger the alert if both conditions are met

I have also created an alert like this:

sxnxr‌: What do you mean by your second screenshost? Packets dropped is no symptom of not running VMware Tools..

From personal experience i would not want alerted at 4am if the vmware tools stops running but the VM is still running. I would have an alert that would only send out if the folowing were true

VM powered on = Yes

Tools running = No

Packet drops = 10

This way if the VM is powered off you wont get an alert

If the tools are not running but you are not getting packet drops then it wont alert

It is a personal choice and may be different for you and your environment

Yeah, you are right, every environment is different.

In our environment there are normally no dropped packets, so this alert would never activate.
