I'm looking at purchasing this from Amazon yet there seems to be two different versions; is the only difference between these two the DVD and the page count?

you are actually pointing to two completely different books here.

One of those is VCAP5-DCA which is Lab Exam

and another book is for VCAP5-DCD which is design exam

these two are two different certification exams.
