Use explicit fail-over order info needed

Hi All,

In my home lab I was checking the policy Use explicit fail-over order in the network teaming options; I have read aabout the policy and it is stated the uplink which is highest in the order all the vm's will use that link. For example if i create a vswitch1 and add two pnics in it -- add 6 vm's in vswitch1 --- when I power on the vms and check esxtop network screen I can see some vms are using pnic1 and some are using pnic2.

I tested this on esxi 5.5 and esxi 6

Have you guys seen this ? Documentation says only the first nic in the order will be used. Any suggestions.

HI,

Ideally it should use first selected uplink selected at the NLB settings. But this settings can be overridden at each and every "VM port group" level and may be NLB settings is set differently at the "VM port group" level than the one selected at "Virtual switch level".
