How to make Workstation detect my 64 bit computer is not 32 bit.

I am trying to install Zorin Linux with Workstation 12. However I get the following message in the Workstation window:

"This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.

Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU."

The following is from Belarc Advisor:

Operating System Windows 10 Professional (x64) Version 1511 (build 10586.164)

Install Language: English (United States)

System Locale: English (United States)

Installed: 8/04/2016 9:11:32 PM

Servicing Branch: Current Branch (CB)

Boot Mode: BIOS (Secure Boot not supported)

Processor a  2.60 gigahertz Intel Core i5-2540M

64 kilobyte primary memory cache

256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

3 kilobyte tertiary memory cache

64-bit ready

Multi-core (2 total)

Hyper-threaded (4 total)

All help in solving this problem would be much appreciated.

Please upload the vmware.log from inside the virtual machine's folder as an attachment to a reply in this thread.  (Use the Attach button in the lower-right corner of the composer window to upload the file.)

Thanks Darius,

I cannot find the Attach Button. There is only a Mention and a App button at the bottom of the compose screen.

John,

It should look like this:

If I am understanding you correctly the "Attach" part is missing on your end?

(The forum software has had all kind of quirks so nothing surprises me much anymore)

Oh dear, yet I am still amazed by the inconsistencies in the forum software...

I have reported the issue to the people responsible and pointed them to this post.

Can you tell us what browser you are running on your Windows 10 host?

It seems more buttons are missing, does it help if you drag at the bottom right corner to make the reply window bigger?

+.0Thanks for your reply.

I tried uninstalling, moving the installer and then reinstalling. The problem was not resolved.

Hi,

Looking at your vmware.log I notice that it only supports Binary Translation, which is not expected for your CPU.

An earlier post from Darius appears to address your issues:

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/519353?start=0&tstart=0#2537315

So in summary:

- Change your guest OS type to a 64 bit version of linux

- Check that your host has VT-x enabled

PS: Can you share how you did manage to attach the vmware.log file?

The attachment button appeared again. However I had to go to Chrome browser to make this post as the Reply button was missing in Firefox,

Hello, if you clear cache in FF does the button appear? We had an issue with a node earlier in the week and wondering if this might have caused the issue you are seeing.
