Why do I get errors when attempting to mount ISO images in shared VMs in Workstation Pro 12.1?

When I attempt to mount an ISO image using a Local (Single Session) connection in a shared VM in Workstation Pro 12.1, I get the following error:

Cannot connect the drive "CD/DVD" drive 1: a connection error occurred

Any idea what is the cause?  I don't have the problem with non-shared VMs and I did not have the problem on earlier versions of VMWare Workstation.

Thanks in advance.

I would guess that only iso-files inside the VM-working directory are allowed.

Unfortunately you can not assume that a feature that worked in previous versions still works on the latest version.

Did you perhaps start Workstation as a different user (eg. run as administrator?) and have your iso files on a file share?

In that case it might not be entirely strange as a different user cannot access  the same file share as the user you used to log in with.
