Vcenter Server 6 requires 2CPU

Hello All,

I was in the process to upgrade our Vcenter Server 5.5 for Windows which is a VM to the latest January build of Vcenter Server 6.0 for Windows.

I went through the installer and after I accepted the EULA a pop up displayed "VMware vCenter Server detected 1 processor(s), 2 processors are required for the selected deployment type. There is not another choice  for the deployment type to start with. Everything is installed in the same VM.

The virtual machine is already at the VM version 10 level. This means I cannot edit the CPU settings in Vsphere Client. The only choice is to edit the hardware settings in the Web Client. But when the Vcenter Server is down for maintenance the web client is down too. The only choice would be directly log in to the ESXi server and edit the setting directly. However I cannot use the Vsphere Client.

Do I have any other option to edit the VM hardware settings?

What exactly is the requirement, 2 CPU or 2 Cores per Socket?

Thanks,

Edy

The ability to edit hardware version 10 VMs with the vSphere client was added in to vSphere 5.5 Update 2, so if you download the 5.5 Update 2 client you will be able to use it.

Alternatively you could use VMware Workstation to connect to the ESXi host when vCenter is down and edit the VM, or use PowerCLI, have a look at Editing vCenter VM Settings with Hardware Version 10 | Pelicano Computer Services

Many thanks for your quick reply. I resolved it with vSphere 5.5 Update 3 client
