Workstation 11.1.2 VM Settings Reports Size of Disk Much Smaller Than The VM Reports

I'm, running Workstation 11.1.2 under Server 2012 R2 Essentials.  The guest OS is Windows 8.1 x64.  The VM settings report that the guest OS's hard disk's current size is 43.5GB with a maximum of 100GB and that the drive is not pre-allocated and occupies a single file.

Inside the VM, Windows 8.1 reports that the drive is consuming 80.6GB of 100GB.

Why would Workstation report 43.5GB while the guest reports 80.6GB?

Also, there are no errors or warnings or anything.  The guest OS starts and runs fine.  I just have this weird discrepancy between the size of the hard drive.

What might explain this is that there are some large files which were only created/allocated, i.e. reserve disk space for optional future use like the Windows pagefile and/or hibernation file.

Hi

when ever we create a vm we have a option called thin and thick disk

if you select the thick it occupies the entire space imd..

if you select the thin depends on the usage it will grow
