Upgrade from 5.1 what to choose

Hello.

We are currently running 5.1 and are replacing our esx hosts with new ones this weekend. I really can't decide if we should use 5.5 because it is more tested and used, or 6.0 because we then will be on the latest platform.

Any suggestions which will help me choose?

New servers are intel e5-2650v3 with Brocade HBA's to brocade switchches attahed to 3par san.

Thanks

Before decide which version to choose, check the support for the versions 5.5 and 6.0... not only the server support, but all related infrastructure, like storage, backup solution, etc... and if all of them already support version 6, go ahead and install the latest version to get newest set of features 🙂

Very good points there Richardson - check all of the elements throughout the stack. Veeam currently has an issue on 6 U1 that is related to SSL changes for example.

Unless there is a killer feature that you need in 6, I would probably recommend going to 5.5 - upgrading isn't terribly hard (assuming you have a cluster and vMotion), and can be done relatively easily at a future point. Just my $.02.

I have recently installed 5.5 because 6 is still new unless 2nd update so decided to go for 5.5.

before go for 6 you must read this kb  2124669
