How would I go about creating a VM of OS X 10.11 Beta as a VM? I've downloaded the app from the App Store. Is there a way to do this in Fusion 8?
Sure, just create a new VM, and when it prompts you for the OS, just drag the 'Install El Capitan.app' file into that window.
I can confirm that this works for me. I have OS X El Capitan (Version 10.11 Beta 15A263e) installed on VMware Fusion 8.0. I took a slightly different route. I first installed OS X Yosemite by creating a new VM and pointing VMware to the Yosemite installation app. Then performed the upgrade to El Capitan. I couldn't get VMware Fusion to complete the installation from the downloaded Beta of El Capitan. It just hangs at what appears to be the final stage.
The latest Install OS X El Capitan Developer Beta.app (Developer Beta 7) will hang with a progress bar during boot in Fusion 8. The installer behavior changed between the Public Beta and Developer Beta 7, and there wasn't enough time to fix and test it right before Fusion 8 was released. This will be resolved in a future update.
To work around the problem, you have to replace "VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Library/Create Mavericks Installer.tool" with an earlier version from the 2015 Tech Preview. I've attached a zip file with it as well.
Is this sticky'ed? Should be.. it's a rather glaring problem and having it highlighted would save time in searching the forums, since it's not clear what is happening when the b7 build just stops mid-way through the boot process.
The fix above works for me.
I can't believe that this is neither sticky'd, nor has it been fixed. I've bought Fusion 8 specifically to test software on El Capitan, and I've wasted quite some time experimenting with VM parameters
Thanks, this worked for me.
