vmware workstation for Linux suggestions for file structure

One of the advantages of the VMware Fusion is that each version installs the complete application in one app folder, making it easy to run multiple versions of the program. Workstation allows only one installed version at a time, forcing us to remove and replace different versions.

It seems to me that having the entire workstation placed in its own tree should work easily in Linux, as long as the helper apps are started with the main application, rather than earlier in the boot process as is done now. The order doesn't seem crucial, because you can stop and restart those services without problems.
