vSphere 6 POC with PSC in HA (Replication) Mode

Hello,

At the moment I’m creating a fully HA vSphere 6 POC.

  • PSC in HA Mode behind KB
  • vCenter as MSCS
  • vCenter DB on SQL MSCS

I have a question about the behavior of the PSC in HA Mode.

I used this Guide for Setup: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2113085

It Seems that the LB and the HA works fine but one behavior is strange:

What I did:

  • Powered off primary PSC
  • Tested C# Client
  • Tested PowerCLI
  • Tested WebClient

Results

  • All Existing and new Connection work fine except for WebClient
    • Existing Session in WebClient works except for SSO Konfig
    • New Connection to WebClient fails (HTTP-Error: 403, Status: BadRequest, Unterstatus: Issuer not recognized..)
    • After restart of WebClient Service everything works fine

Did anyone even try this?

Has anyone tested PSC HA with KEMP Loadmaster?

Update:

The same problem occurs after failback to the powered off PSC Node

-> Restart of WebClient Service works again

I am using this setup in PROD after testing for weeks.

You might want to look at these KBs : 2112736 (compatible LB's for PSC HA) and 2098006 F5 configuration - to get an idea of what settings need to be in place.

Also, what is the address of each PSC? and what is the vip address that the LB is serving up? (Is the vip the address you are pointing to when using the web client?

Hi,

at first it’s nice to hear that is setup is somewhere in production *g*

Yes, I know this KB and I think the Problem with KEMP LB is:

  • Ability to have session affinity to a single node (i.e. Sticky Sessions)

This is only possible per VS and not for across all Real Servers.

But anyway this should only be a problem in a very specific situation (only one service down on the PSC with lowest Weighting) when I use fixed Weighting for the Real Servers.

Have you tested the situation I have described?

TEST-PCS-01: 172.20.1.101
TEST-PSC-01: 172.20.1.102

TEST-PSC-00: 172.20.1.103 -> LB

I pointed during the Setup to TEST-PSC-00.

And also the Config check during the HA Setup looks good.

Also, what is the address of each PSC? and what is the vip address that the LB is serving up? (Is the vip the address you are pointing to when using the web client?

Answer’s that your question?

The thing is except of a new Session in the Web Client everting works during the Failover / Failback State.

I guys,

I am testing the same things your doing but with a F5 load balancer.

Can you please describe the tests your are doing on your installation.

I not quite sure what to look for as I don't control the LB and I would like to be sure of what to look for.

Thanks

Stephane.

I simulated the typical failure scenarios:

  • One PSC fails completely
  • One PSC has Services stoped
