Copy File from Windows to Ubuntu

I am running latest version of VMware workstation on Windows 7 64-bit.

I have an Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS VM running on it (VMware Tools installed).

I tried to copy an ISO file (around 4 GB) from host to guest. The operation was completed successfully but I do not find the file anywhere on Ubuntu and total space has been consumed for that.

Any idea ?

Hello,

You forgot to mention what mechanism you used for copy & paste.

If it was without using a file share in shared folders, just using drag&drop then the file most likely ended up somewhere in your /tmp folder.

I've not verified how this works under linux, but on windows a file that is dragged and dropped will first be copied to the user temp folder and then be copied to the destination of your drop target. It is likely to be the same on a Linux guest and IIRC then it is really a copy from the temp folder and not a move.

In that case you would need to have 8GB free in the guest in order for the drag & drop to succeed.
