Troubleshooting ESXi 5.5.0 boot PSOD

Good day to all!

I have troubles with my ESXI 5.5. Booting process of ESXI server goes as usually instead of showing PSOD purple screen including next text:

No place on disk to dump data.

No file configured to dump data.

Debugger waiting(world 32768) -- no port for remote debugger.

It happened after cutting off electricity while shooting down process of ESXI server. As i see from error message, there are problems with one of the kernel file, maybe i mistaken. Please help with this problem, unfortunately i had no backups of this server, in case of reinstalling ESXI i will have to do a huge work and it will cost me a looot of time. Please anyone help. i would be very appreciate for any help.

Hi,

looks like there is no way around re-installing the host. Similar topic found here: Troubleshooting ESXi 5.5.0 U1 boot PSOD

and general information on that PSOD in this KB: VMware KB: ESXi installation fails with a purple diagnostic screen error: NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/vmker...

Yes, i read those links. I still have a hope to recover my ESXI somehow.... i keep trying to find solution, re-installing is not acceptable, i have several important virtual servers under this ESXI  Smiley Sad

Re-Installing does not delete/format your datastore(s) usually. You can re-add the VMs to inventory after successful re-installation of ESXi.

Is it really like this? may i be sure that the re-installation will not delete my VMs? I don't remember exactly if i need or not to format disk while installation of ESXI. If so, i will try to do it immediately

You may install to alternate location like empty USB key or SD-Card for testing. Setup detects the existing datastores and will add them to the host's configuration.

There is a step in setup process asking about what to do with existing datastores.

See for example: vSphere Documentation Center

nstalling ESXi on a Drive with an Existing ESX or ESXi Installation or VMFS Datastore

ESXi 5.0 uses the same installer for fresh installations and upgrades or migrations. If the installer finds an existing ESX 4.x or ESXi 4.x installation, it provides the option to upgrade or to do a fresh installation.

See vSphere Upgrade.

Depending on the disk layout of your system, the ESXi installer offers a choice between preserving or overwriting the VMFS datastore during installation.

I would like to thank you for your tips, i reinstalled ESXI without formatting existing datastore, after this i successfully added VM's to inventory, and it is runs perfectly. Thank you very much! Smiley Happy
