The current user is a local user...

Attempting to install Configuration Manager. During the prereq check we receive the following error...

"The current user is a local user and does not have domain credentials"

The account we are using does have domain credentials so we are lost.

What version of VCM are you attempting to install? Prior to 5.7.2, this error could occur in cases where the PDC for a domain was not reachable/available.

If you're using 5.7.2 or later, I would guess that there's a problem in the trust relationship between your machine and its domain. Was this machine perhaps snapshotted and reverted? That will often break the domain trust. If that's what happened, you'll need to remove the machine from the domain, and then re-add it.

Using 5.7.2.

Trust relationship seems fine but removed and added back to domain anyway, just to rule that out.

No change.

Looks like you have reused the same IP or Domain Name twice in your domain or trying to reuse some deleted entry which was not removed completely.

Remove the machine from domain.

In your domain machine get into "Active Directory Users and Computers" find the entry for your computer under

<Your Domain Name>  --> Computers

Delete this entry.

Add the machine back to domain.

Thanks but that's not the issue.

It could be a problem with DNS configuration in your environment. You might try this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247811

The attached utility can be used to try to resolve a domain controller from the machine where you're trying to install VCM. This is the same Windows API call that the installation process is using. If this app can't find a DC, the prerequisite check will fail, and the MS article is probably going to be the best reference to determine why this call isn't working.

The utility works just fine, was able to resolve the DC without issue.
