I have a question around allocation vs demand based capacity.
If we have an ESXi cluster that has the following metrics showing in vCOPs 5.8.2:
Memory
Configured 3,407,420 MB
Demand 315,581 (10% of Usable)
Usage 2,367,453 MB (74% of Usable)
I realise that there is a massive right-sizing of VM memory opportunity here but let's put this to one side for the moment.
So we continue to deploy VMs such that Used memory exceeds 100% i.e. we overcommit memory. At the same time making the assumption that the additional VMs deployed cause the Demand to double to 20% of Usable.
My question is, with the above overcommitted memory configuration in conjunction but with a Demand of 20%, will ESXi invoke Memory reclamation? (since we have exceeded the 94% free threshold)..
Could we continue to deploy VMs until Demand reaches, say, 80% of Usable if capacity is based on the Demand model?
