Convert Machine function error in VMWare Converter Standalone Client 5.5.3 build 2183569

I noticed an interesting problem in VMWare Converter Standalone Client 5.5.3 build 2183569, which cost me some hours of head-scratching today. To reproduce:

1) Select Convert Machine and chose a machine from a Infrastructure source (mine was an ESXi 5.1 server - not sure this matters).

2) In the Destination System options:

  a) choose a destination type of VMWare Workstation (so the destination is different than the source)

  b) set the destination name to be the same as the name of a *different* virtual machine on the Infrastructure source.

  c) set an appropriate destination location for the virtual machine, and defaults for the other options.

3) Start the conversion job.

You will see that the *source* machine in the conversion is no longer what you originally selected, but has changed to the machine with the same name as what you put in the *destination* name.  As a result, you will receive a converted copy of the wrong virtual machine.

The only way I was able to get around this problem (and still use the destination name that I wanted) was to temporarily remove the Infrastructure machine with that name from the Infrastructure inventory of machines.  Once I did that, I was able to set the destination name to what I wanted, and actually get a copy of the correct virtual machine.

Can someone else confirm this?

Hello

I could not reproduce this; there should be something peculiar in your environment. Could you please upload the logs?

Also share anything unusual about the source and destination, e.g. vmx file name different from the folder name, duplicated VM names, etc..

Regards,

Plamen
