I found some info pointing at restarting hp-snmp-agents.

This is a machine with iLO, but not iLO2 as stated for this known problem, and I dont find any hp-snmp-agents to restart on the host.

Any one know that this might be... what can I do to stop it? I am on the custom HP ESXi 5.5 U2 build

Hello,

as I am aware this was caused by iLO/management agent combinaton - can you try updating both on a test host preferrably?

I did update everything but still got the same message. As I said, I could not even find any hp-snmp-agents to restart as stated by HP.

There is a KB that addresses this exact issue for a HP Host:

VMware KB: The vmkernel logs report a warning containing LinChar and LinuxCharWrite

I have the same bug with my DL580 Gen8.

But HPE thinks, is not a bug, it's feature (!?!)

RESOLUTION

These failed write messages occur when an application/service writes to the iLO 4 channel driver without adequate free channels available in iLO 4 to accept the write request.

These messages can be safely ignored as subsequent writes will be allowed once channels become open.
