VDP 5.8 - An Unexpected Error with error code 10020

First attempt/test at backing up an Exchange server and in VDP reports it says its Success but in Task Failures it says 'VDP: An unexpected error occured with the following error code: 10020'.  I know that VDP doesnt supports guest-level backups of Microsoft Exchange/SQL Servers but that doesnt stop it from backing up the VM itself?  That is i wont be able to restore just Exchnage or SQL but I can restore the entire VM?  That being the case, is the error because of this lack of guest-level backup support?

Did you ever resolve this error code?  I'm currently using VDP 6.0.1, but have seen this error since v5.5 and have never been able to determine the cause or how to fix it.  I can't even determine what error code 10020 is.  I've reviewed the logs, but found nothing helpful.  Anyone get this error and know why or how to fix it?

I am also having this problem with VDP 5.5.

I only see the issue when I am trying to backup Windows based VM's.

Anyone have some info on what is going on here?

10020 is a generic error code that doesn't really say much to what the issue is.  Do you know how to view the logs of the failed job?

Same error here running VDP 6.1.2.19, the logs are not very useful. Any have success resolving this "Partial Success" backup error?

I also have this problem with v6.1.2.19

I suspect it is an error whilst attempting to quiesce and here's why:

The VM being backed up is a Windows Server 2012,

In vCenter Web Client, go to Hosts and Clusters and select the VM that is being backed up

Select the Monitor tab and click on Events

Scroll to the Date Time of the backup,

There I've found a Warning, for user vpxuser, which shows:

"The guest OS has reported an error during quiescing. The error code was: 5 The error message was 'VssSyncStart' operation failed: IDispatch error #8455 (0x80042307)"

I tried many things to resolve it:

Setting shadow copy service and all related vmware vss and snapshot services to automatic start, plus making sure they were running,

Increasing VSS timeout in the registry (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Settings\IdleTimeout)

Still receiving the same error in Windows Event Monitor:

[ warning] [vmvss:vmvss] CVmSnapshotRequestor::UnregisterProviderImpl():1878: failed to unregister provider, error 0x80042307 (I)

Ultimately I could not get it to stop the errors with vss so I tried setting in Tools.conf for the vmware tools

[vmbackup]

vss.disableAppQuiescing = true

But that seemed to have no effect, so I uninstalled the Volume Shadow Copy support component of VMware tools, leaving all other components installed.

Now it works without error, but also without vss quiescing.
