Moved a thick Drive off a datastore but Space not reclaimed ?

Hi Forum

Today I had a space alert on a Datastore so moved a 400GB thick disk off it (one disk from a multi disk VM , kept the other disks on there) , I expected the capacity view to show me 400GB free in the capacity view but it's just stayed the same?

I did not think I had to do any sdelete or zero of the datastore if moving something thick of it, is this what I am missing?

I have refreshed the view etc

Did you Refresh the datastore to see whether the free disk space is updated?

Hi

How about your LUN/ Storage. Is that LUN thin provisioned ?

use the unmap command to reclaim the space ( VAAI UNMAP primitive)

thanks for answering,

I am not actually sure how to tell this in vsphere, or if that is  a level above that

I just moved a thin disk off the datastore and the free space became free straight away which confuses me further and might answer your above question
