Expanding the size of RDM

Dear All,

I'm looking for method of increasing size of RDM which is mapped to a Windows 2008 R2 server, while searching I found below two articles from vmware:

VMware KB: Resizing a LUN used by a Raw Device Map ( this one tells the procedure for both physical and virtual mode RDM's is to shutdown the virtual machine and then start the process)

VMware KB: Expanding the size of a Raw Device Mapping (RDM) ( this one tells differnet way for physical mode RDM and different way to take care of virtual mode RDM)

I would like to have your opinion to that which is the correct method to follow for both RDM type (physical or virtual) ?

Please assist.

Thanks,
Wajeeh

first one is a bit obsolete ... generally there is no downtime required when expanding RDM follow the second article:

VMware KB: Expanding the size of a Raw Device Mapping (RDM)
