Have a licensed vmware fusion on my Mac before installing Yosemite

    1661design Lurker

      Installing Yosemite made it unusable.

Will installing the Technology preview remove my unusable vmware fusion licensed software ?

Will I lose the VMs that I already have ?

      Thanks much,

      Sergio

Which version of Fusion are you currently using?

Fusion 6.0.4 does run fine on Yosemite.

Having said that, installing Tech preview will not remove any of your Virtual Machines. You should be able to access your Virtual Machines under Tech Preview without any issue .

            Hi Sergio,

You can install VMware Fusion Tech Preview alongside Fusion 6.x

In order to do so you install it in another location as the Applications folder, please read the release notes for the details.

Virtual Machines are basically treated like documents, changing Fusion does not delete your virtual machines.

But you might have to upgrade/downgrade the version of your virtual machines in order to switch between Fusion versions (Note that to downgrade from Tech Preview to Fusion 6.x you will need to downgrade from the Tech Preview version)

            Hope this helps,

The VMware Fusion Tech Preview can be installed in the /Applications folder directly alongside VMware Fusion because the .app bundles are differently named.  The only requirement to having both installed is to set "Show applications menu in menu bar" to "Only when Fusion is running".

Just drag and drop the .app bundle into /Application instead of double-clicking it.  (Actually if double-clicked it installs as VMware Fusion Tech Preview.app so either way it van be in the /Applicarions folder along with the VMware Fusion.app bundle.)

Ah.. OK that makes sense, thanks Woody for correcting me.

Guess that's my bad for not taking the efforts to go reread the exact steps
