5.5 boot problems - crash/hang after 'swapobj loaded successfully'

Hi - I have had ESXi running successfully for several months on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with two mirrored drives to boot and a raid 5 array of three drives. This on a PERC 6i controller.

Recently, it started crashing at boot up saying there was nowhere to create a dump file.

When I went to reinstall, it would even crash booting from CD (same report about a dump file) - until I removed all the drives and put in a blank 500gb drive.

I reinstalled ESXi to that drive, and reinstalled the mirrored drives, and was able to access the VMs on that mirror.

However, when I added the array back into the mix, it started crashing at boot again.

Any thoughts on regaining stability of this system? It was fine for several months.

Thanks,

J
